Roseline Roy translated 8 of the 9 books by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish and published them all. By offering workshops and conferences in the French-speaking world, she has made their material known throughout Canada and on the international scene. Thousands of parents, teachers and professionals who work with children have benefited from her experience in the field of adult-child communication. Her enthusiasm for this work led her to adapt the Faber-Mazlish workshops to the school context – with the collaboration of Christine Dapvril, Adele Faber and Joanna Faber.

How Roseline Roy discovered the “How to Talk” approach

To meet the requirements of my master’s program, I completed an internship at a mental health clinic. Overloaded, the professional team of the clinic could not respond to the demand of a group of parents whose preschool children presented behavioral problems. It was in this context that I had my first contacts with the works of Adele Faber and Elaine Mazish. I did not realize, at that time, that this discovery would guide all my professional life …

From the first time reading the How to Talk So Kids Will Listen workshop leader’s guide, I was overtaken with an overflowing enthusiasm: this material appeared to be an obvious answer to my personal quest as a mother.

A real favorite

I had done studies in education and psychology. I read all the books and articles on parent-child relationship that I could find; however, I had only found bits and pieces of helpful material. Finally, I discovered an approach that really stuck with me. For the first time, I could adhere to a set of principles and tools directly applicable in my personal life. Furthermore, when I saw the enthusiastic reaction of the participants of this first workshop, I immediately realized the potential for change with this approach.

A dedicated publishing house...

Over the years, I’ve translated and published Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish’s work. I have made their material known in French-speaking Canada and in European countries, offered numerous workshops and given conferences throughout the French-speaking world. I was able to reach thousands of parents, teachers and professionals who work with children in different parts of the world. My early enthusiasm has only grown over the years.

I see today all the benefits that these new skills have brought to my life. And each time I present this material, the magic is renewed. People are amazed and delighted to finally find eloquent answers to their desire to better interact with their beloved children. I have received many compelling testimonies about the benefits they derive from it in their own lives, not to mention the moving stories of the closer emotional bonds between them and their children.

Since the beginning of the journey in 1992, the “family” has grown…
